Birman Wood & Hardware Ltd is a public company whose stocks are being traded in the Tel Aviv stock exchange.

The company is dealing with import, production and marketing of wood panels, hardware, kitchen electrical appliance and kitchen worktops.

Birman company is active since 1932 and employs over 270 employees, with a fleet of 30 trucks and commercial vans for supplying the products all over the country. We are considered as one of the leading suppliers for the furniture and wood industry in Israel.

On an area of 100,000 sqm, in the new industrial zone Kidmat Galilee near Tiberias, are located the factory, which includes press lines for veneering and other coatings, the head offices and the logistic warehouses, as well as the fabrication of Birman Acrylic.

The hardware products are being exhibited and sold in a main showroom –

Tel Aviv – At the Design Center mall.

The appliances under the brand Fulgor Milano, Bellini and Falmec are being exhibited also in the showrooms of the leading kitchen producers all over Israel.

WOOD PRODUCTS

Plywood – Twin, Okoume, Birch and Poplar from the best producers in the world.

MDF – High quality in the top standards, including fire retardant (FR) MDF and moisture resistant (MR) MDF.

Chipboard – Raw and Melamine faced, in all thickness, made in Europe.

Hardboard – From Duratex Brazil at the top quality.

Flexboard – Tubular chipboard for doors.

Lami – Pine edge glued panels in high quality.

Hpl – Wide variety of designs with special overlay for long-lasting protection.

OSB – Panels for construction and decoration.

Solid lumber – Beech, Poplar and further species.

Light Weight Panels – Raw and laminated.

All the Chipboard, MDF, Plywood and Hardboard panels are supplied raw or laminated with Melamine, Veneer, Finish foil and Hpl in the new factory near Tiberias which includes presslines, cutting and sanding machines in the latest technology. The veneer is specially selected by the professional Birman team prior to delivery and with the brand new laser equipment it is beeing jointed, laminated on the panels and beeing sanded in special process.
Hardware products

Import and marketing of professional and decorative hardware for all furniture branches. Birman represents exclusively leading manufacturers worldwide, including Hettich Germany, the biggest hardware producer in the world.

Birman surfaces

birman is a one stop shop for kitchen tops , as well as walls and floors surfaces. as a leader in the porcelain field birman is the exclusive importer and distributer of xtone, from porcelanosa group, inox surfaces in several finishes, and acrylic.
Electric appliances

Birman is a leading supplier of built in electric appliances for kitchens.

Under the brand names of fulgor Milano, Falmec and bellini the range includes refrigerators, ovens, hobs, cooker hoods, coffee machines and dishwashers.

All products are installed by technical staff of birman as well as the service and laboratories.

All products are in the warehouse on stock and can be delivered according to the order request.

Lamination is carried out using the cold laminating method which provides improved stability of the laminated board

ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS
Melamine – made of finely shredded woodchips. The chipboard is covered with paper on both sides of the board
OSB – aspen, pine, poplar chipsli>
Blockboards – a three-ply panel (two plies of coniferous wood and in-between a 2.5 millimeters thick Fromager veneer).
The board is available with a Fromager, MDF, green waterproof MDF and MDF + paint primer coating
Edge glued panels – the boards are made of whitewood or pine glued in wood strips
HPL – white and colorful HPL by worlds leading companies

Ordilan is a long-established company operating for 75 years in the field of wood, Importing wood, timber products, softwood, plywood, and construction formworks. Throughout the years, the company has consistently striven to increase the range of products marketed by entering new areas and expanding its customer base. Ordilan provides solutions for all customer’s needs in the fields of timber, construction and packaging. Ordilan markets its products from its large industrial plant in the Gan Yavne Industrial Zone where tens of thousands of cubic meters of wood are stored. In 2021, the company’s revenue totaled about NIS 330 million (abt. 100 million euros).
Ordilan was founded in 1946 by the late Nachum Lichtenberg and other partners in Tel Aviv. In 1970 his sons Moti Tel-Or and Uzi Lichtenberg bought out the partners and a phase of rapid growth began. The company bought a warehouse in Holon covering 8,000 square meters and some years later the warehouse in Gan Yavne, which serves the company until today.
The total land in Gan Yavne now amounts to 40,000 plus square meters. In 2012, the company built a planning mill and a plant for laminating plywood and other sheet materials. In 2013, the company acquired a factory (formerly Triwall) with 35 employees for the manufacturing wood pallets.
At its inception Ordilan imported and marketed hard and soft woods. In recent years with the entry of the third generation- new areas have been developed.
In the past 17 years, Ordilan invested in the building sector through fully owned subsidiaries that have resulted in construction of hundreds of apartments in Modiin, Beitar Illit, Gedera and Beit Shemesh. Ordilan has excellent commercial relations with the world’s leading wood producers, and the company currently has over 150 employees.

Organizational Structure
Company management is at 45 Nahmani St. Tel Aviv from where import management, financial matters, organization, and marketing strategy are handled. The company is managed by Moti Tel-Or and Uzi Lichtenberg – the second generation in the wood business.
The marketing, production and customer service divisions are in the Gan Yavne Industrial Zone and comprise five departments: softwood, hardwood, plywood, industry, and construction technologies. Each department has its own sales staff with joint secretarial staff for the five departments. Warehouses contain thousands of cubic meters of wood and boards.

The departments are:
• Softwood: Whitewood and pinewood mainly for construction, wooden pallets and joinery. Wood is sourced from Europe, countries of the former Yugoslavia, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria as well as the US and Canada.
• Hardwood: beech, oak, maple, cherry, walnut and others marketed to furniture manufacturers, imported from the former Yugoslavia, Romania, Africa, south and north America Ipe for decking and landscaping.
• Plywood: Plywood, HPL, M.D.F., chipboard and hardboard from China, Spain and Italy.
• Industry: Planning mill, laminating plant, Pallet production.
• Construction Technologies: Design, sale and rental of advanced formwork for construction. Ordilan is the Israeli representative of HARSCO company, which specializes in quality building formworks.

Future Plans
Ordilan’s sales have grown in recent years and the company strives to maintain this growth. While most companies in this sector in Israel specialize in specific types of wood, Ordilan markets a wide range of woods and intends to continue to be Israel’s main supplier of wood and wood products.

Public Activities and Contribution to the Community
Co-CEO Uzi Lichtenberg serves as chairman of the wood sector and industrialized wood boards at the Federation of Chambers of Commerce. As part of this role he promotes the recognition of wood as a leading raw material. He also serves on several Standards Institute committees and assisted in authorizing 100 roofers – a joint venture of the Chamber of Commerce and Israel Building Center. Ordilan regularly contributes wood and plywood to the needy and maintains a fully equipped carpentry workshop named after the company founder the late Nachum Lichtenberg. The workshop is in the Ofarim village in Ramat Hasharon for autistic adults to enrich the residents’ lives.

Dual-Purpose Wood & Concrete Tack Strip
Item No. 120011

Capitol® 7/8″ Dual-Purpose Tack Strip is made of 5-ply construction materials, and securely holds carpet in place with pre-nailed high-carbon nails. The pins are angled for improved gripping and to help secure the carpet after stretching. The beveled edge keeps the carpet tucked between the tack strip and the wall, and stays in place when stretching carpet with knee kickers or standard power stretchers.

Deep Base Wood Nail Gripper
QA Deep Base Gripper is ideal for installations with thicker underlays (11mm / 12mm) which can cause a dip in the carpet when used with a standard gripper.

Our extra deep pre-nailed carpet grippers are 9mm high instead of 6mm, so it will help to reduce any height difference.

Available in a medium pin – Nails and pins are 4mm longer to allow for the extra thickness of the wood.

Carpet grippers are narrow strips of plywood with rows of sharp pins that face upwards.

The pins are angled at 65 degrees to the horizontal, and are designed to grip the carpet quickly and firmly when it is stretched into position and placed on top.

There are two main types of carpet gripper:

domestic carpet gripper – which has two rows of pins

commercial carpet gripper – which has three rows of pins and provides a more secure hold on stiffer carpets.

The carpet gripper is installed before you lay the carpet, with the pins facing towards the wall or outside edge of the carpet.

The most common length is 1.220 metres (4 feet).

You can cut these pieces into shorter lengths when finishing against a wall or going around corners.

The lengths can be cut using gripper strip cutters.

Fixing to the subfloor
Most grippers have steel nails positioned at regular intervals along the length of the plywood.

When you put the gripper in position on the floor, you can then simply hammer the nails in to secure the strip.

There are different types of nails used for different subfloor materials:

ring shank nails are designed for timber or plywood subfloors

smooth shank nails are designed for higher density (harder) concrete subfloors

spiral shank nails are for lower density concrete, which tends to crumble more around the nail hole.

In areas where it is too difficult to use the pre-nailed gripper, ‘no nail’ or ‘standard’ carpet gripper is used.

In this case, the gripper strip can be fixed to the floor surface using contact or construction adhesive.

For surfaces such as ceramic tiles, it can be fixed using plugs and screws.

If the subfloor is metal, you can use self-tapping screws.

Also note that on thinner carpets you can use a ‘short pin’ gripper, which helps to avoid the problem of the pins penetrating too far into the carpet and being felt by bare feet walking over the top.

The gully
The gripper strip has an undercut bevel on one side which is placed facing the wall.

This gives you a space, or gully, to tuck the edge of the carpet into.

The width of the gully should be about 60% of the thickness of the carpet.

Don’t make the gully too wide, because that will cause the carpet to droop at the edge.

Over time, the carpet could also unhook from the pins and loose its tension

Also don’t make the gully too narrow, because then you won’t be able to tuck in the edge of the carpet.

If you try to wedge or force the carpet into position, you might end up cracking the skirting board.

Curves and corners
When you’re working around curves, doorways and other odd shapes, you still need to maintain an even gully width.

Make sure you secure each piece with at least two nails.

This will stop the piece from spinning or turning when you push the carpet edge into the gully.

If you need to get under kickboards or into other awkward places, you can use a drive bar and heavy hammer to drive the nails into the subfloor.

What Is Carpet Gripper And How Is It Used?

A carpet gripper, also known as a tack strip, is a device used in the installation of wall-to-wall carpets to secure the carpet in place along the edges of a room. It commonly consists of a narrow strip of wood with small, sharp pins or tacks protruding from it. The gripper is installed around the perimeter of the room, typically against the baseboard or skirting, and its purpose is to hold the carpet firmly in place, preventing it from shifting or bunching up over time.

Here’s how carpet grippers are used:

Installation: The carpet gripper is placed around the edges of the room in a continuous run. Gripper should be fixed about 7mm away from the wall, slightly more for thicker carpets, with the pins angled toward the wall. QA Gripper has a printed arrow on it that should point towards the wall. Cut lengths to size with gripper shears. Safety gloves are a good idea as the metal pins are very sharp.
Tacking the Carpet: Once the gripper is in place, the carpet is laid over the floor and stretched tightly towards the walls. The carpet’s edge is then pressed down onto the pins of the gripper strip. The sharp pins grip the carpet’s backing material securely, anchoring it in place.
Trimming Excess: The excess carpet that extends beyond the walls is trimmed, leaving a neat and even edge. This edge is then tucked between the gripper strip and the baseboard or skirting, creating a clean, finished appearance.
Types of carpet grippers available:

Wooden Nail Gripper: Pre-nailed for easy, fast installation on board and suspended timber subfloors.
Dual-Purpose Grippers: These grippers have a double function. They serve as both carpet grippers and transition strips, providing a smooth transition between different flooring surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood and are pre-nailed with dual purpose nails for wood and concrete subfloors.
Concrete Grippers: Pre-nailed with masonry nails, specially designed for ease and speed of installation and an exceptionally strong fixing on concrete subfloors.

Calculating quantities
The most obvious way to calculate the amount of gripper strip needed for an installation is to measure around the perimeter walls, not including doorways and other openings (unless the carpet is butting up against a different floor covering).

However, carpet layers sometimes use a simple rule of thumb to estimate the quantity needed:

For residential installations: allow 0.81 lineal metres for every square metre of carpet

For commercial installations: allow 0.65 lineal metres for every square metre of carpet.

Do a measure up of the room you’re in right now and estimate the quantity of gripper strip needed for the installation.

Use both techniques described above – measuring the perimeter of the area and using the rule of thumb for residential installations.
